I can't wait to try THIS on Brynlie's dresser (which was my dresser when I was a little girl but is still in great shape)!
I went on a team-up with the missionaries today. We taught a nice lady who is trying her hardest to be a good mother to the 4 children she has with her alcoholic ex-husband. Her 12-year-old son cuts himself and threatens suicide daily, her house is infested with fleas (and who knows what else), she has no running water in the house, and her 7-year-old daughter is battling leukemia. She smoked half a packet of cigarettes while she told us how grateful she is to have a roof over her head. She spent many YEARS living in a tent with her children. They would rotate living in local campsites for 15 days at time, since that's the legal limit of time allowed. We talked for over an hour about the joy that comes from living the gospel, and I personally challenged her to come to church this week. She doesn't have a car, so I offered to pick up her family.
Needless to say, my funk is over. Heavenly Father gave me the tender mercy of an amazing opportunity today. I'm feeling rather humiliated about my venting session yesterday.
I have no idea if my children will turn out to be happy, intelligent, independent, responsible, confident adults. But I'm doing the best I can, and that has to count for something.
