Beautiful Nauvoo

We took an impromptu trip to Nauvoo on Thursday night, after Ryan and I realized the Winter Quarters temple would be closed on Friday, when we had planned to spend the day together. We took the kids with us on the 4-hour drive and spent the night at a Nauvoo hotel. The only downer of the trip was when I realized my temple recommend was expired . . .oops! So Ryan did a session at the temple while I took the kids to many of the houses and visitors centers around town. Brevan's favorite part was the walk down Parley Street by himself. He said it was one of the most spiritual experiences of his life. Brynlie was interested in everything, and was so sad when it was time to go. Lindsey and Logan were not exactly thrilled with all the walking and "don't touch"ing, but luckily it was a PERFECT day so they spent much time running around outside. It was 75 degrees without a cloud in the sky. It actually made me realize more than ever how sad the early Saints must have been as they left their homes and temple behind to head west. After leaving Nauvoo, we went to Carthage Jail, where I took the next few pictures.

Logan was excited to be out of the car, and challenged Ryan to a race!
The girls, looking up at the window Joseph Smith fell out of after being shot.

Not the greatest picture (since it was taken with my phone camera) but the look on Logan's face is priceless!
We got home late last night. It was the perfect beginning to Conference weekend! I am so excited to spend the weekend listening to our leaders and eating delicious food. And (I will admit) not doing any Primary work!
