Catching up with us

A little catch-up of what's going on with us:

Logan:
  • Is so dang funny.  He often says things like, "Mommy, I love you.  And when someone loves another someone, the other someone plays lots of games with them and reads them lots of books."  How can I say no to that?  Yesterday, a guy came to our door selling lawn services.  Logan opened the door and said, "Holy smokes!  What are YOU doing here?"  He's incredibly intelligent in the way he says things to us, knowing that we respond well to his cuteness!
  • Is very smart.  Not shocking, because Ryan and I make some seriously smart kids.  He already loves to learn, and can count to 20 and recognize most numbers and letters in the alphabet.  He always has to know what time it is on the digital clocks, and then let's us all know.
  • Sleeps in Brevan's bed most nights.  Unless I miss him and bring him into our bed to cuddle.
  • Is a very determined little athlete.  He gets a very serious look on his face when kicking or throwing a ball, and plays his little heart out.  He started soccer this week.
  • Makes "boy" sounds all day long.
  • Has added apples, sandwiches, scrambled eggs (he can honestly eat 6-7 eggs at a time), waffles, most kinds of meat and orange juice to the list of things he willingly eats.
  • Yesterday he said to Ryan, "You know, if monsters came to our house, it's OK.  I would just get my gun and kill them.  But you know . . .that means you will have to buy me a real gun."  Nice try.
Lindsey:
  • Runs off the school bus everyday with a giant smile on her face, her pigtails wagging, and goes right into my arms.  She always says school was "great!" and loves everything about school . . .learning, being social, playing, eating lunch.
  • Has a bagillion little friends.  The SECOND she walks in the door from school, the phone starts ringing.  6-year-olds talking on the phone to each other might be the cutest thing in the world.
  • Loves being in Brenda's choir group.  Her favorite day of the week is Tuesday, so she can go sing with the big girls!
  • Starts soccer next week, and can't wait!  I love her enthusiasm for life and anything new!
  • Still falls asleep on the floor or turns into a mess of tears at EXACTLY 8:30 every night.  Wakes up bright and early and ready for a fun-filled day by 7:30.
  • She is so stinkin' smart it's ridiculous.  Kindergarten work is an absolute breeze for her, because she is reading chapter books easily, and can already do some multiplication.  Her teacher is very impressed with her abilities.
Brynlie:
  • Is still a super-duper little mommy.  She loves taking care of little kids, including Logan.  The look on her face when she sees a baby is priceless!  She will immediately pick up any baby and start playing and talking sweetly.  She has no reservations when it comes to taking care of kids, and will be an amazing babysitter for other kids in a few years.
  • Has had a little bit of a rough year with some friendships, and it's showing in her moods.  She often gets home from school in a tired and sad state, but gets happier as she unwinds.  I worry that she keeps too many emotions tucked inside, because a common phrase from her is, "I just don't want to talk about it."
  • She is already mastering the eye-roll, and will have it perfected by the time she is a teenager!
  • Is a generally happy and positive girl, and is an absolute joy to have around.  She keeps me sane most days.  I'm not kidding about that.  I often have to remind myself that she is my daughter and not a friend that I can discuss anything with.
  • Continues to excel in school, getting PERFECT marks in all her subjects and social areas.
  • Still loves to dance, but is looking forward to playing some sports next year.  She wants to try basketball and volleyball (because her cousin, Ashlyn, is a sport-nut, and Brynlie wants to be just like her).
  • Eats an apple every day.  Without fail.  It is her favorite snack by far.
  • Takes 45 minute showers, which does not always make her Mama happy.
  • Spends at least 20 minutes deciding what to wear, which also doesn't make her Mama very happy.  I have to constantly remind her to "grab some jeans and a shirt and throw them on!" because she is much more fashionable than me.  She spends large amounts of time "accessorizing" with scarves, bracelets, necklaces, hair bows, leggings, belts, etc.  The kid has to wake up AN HOUR AND A HALF before the school bus comes, to leave enough time for her to get ready.  She is definitely not like me in this regard.  In fact, she won't even wear a hoodie which is my favorite clothing item.
  • Is having problems with insomnia.  Poor thing.
Brevan:
  • Thinks deodorant, toothpaste, hair gel and soap are not necessary items.  He is wrong.
  • Is getting STRAIGHT A's in his home-school and Middle School classes!  Woohoo!  So far, he is still loving home-school and wants to continue with the online program next year.  We have both learned how to get along better during the day, so things are going fairly smoothly.
  • Is working to develop a couple friendships.  He told me last night that he has learned how to make a friend, but then doesn't know how to act around them, so he doesn't keep the friends.  We are going to look into some social therapy to help him learn more skills.
  • Has learned to cook some easy food items, and enjoys the independence.  He came home from school extra hungry a couple days ago, and started cooking ground beef to make Hamburger Helper.
  • Is growing like a Missouri weed!  He wore size 12 pants at the beginning of the school year, was in a 14 by Christmas, and now is a 16.  We are going broke buying clothes to keep up with his growth spurts!
  • Is a total night-owl.  On the very rare days we let him, he can literally stay up all night (I'm talking until like 6 in the morning) and then sleep until afternoon.
  • Has feet that are bigger than mine!  He is wearing a size 8 1/2 Mens.  Ryan is only an 11, so we're sure Brevan will catch up with him very soon.  His feet are growing faster than I can purchase shoes.
  • Continues to hate nature and being outside.  He says the feel of the sun on his body is painful, and the sun is too bright.
  • Is very patient with Logan.  Helps him play video-games, board games, wrestle, etc.  He is even patient when Logan is kicking and punching him!
Me:
  • Loving my Primary calling.  It took me a couple years to get to this point where I feel comfortable and know what I'm doing.  Does that mean I will be released soon?  Probably so, but I'm loving every minute of my time with those kids until then.  I have an amazing presidency right now, who are great to work with and awesome examples to me.
  • I bore my testimony in Sacrament meeting on Sunday.  Remember how I promised last month that I would do it?  Well, I did!  It was really hard, and I don't remember anything of great importance that I said, but I conquered my fear of public speaking and bore testimony of the things I know are true.
  • I'm absolutely absorbed in a book series right now, called "The Great and Terrible."  Oh.  My.  Goodness.  So.  Intense.  I haven't gotten much done the past couple days, because I just want to sit and read.  Clean?  Nah.  Cook dinner?  Let's do cereal, so I can read one more chapter.
  • Allergy season is creeping up, and I'm excited to see if the allergy shots make a big difference this spring.  I still get 2 shots every Wednesday afternoon, but will soon be able to cut back to every other week.
  • I've had no motivation to exercise the past couple weeks.  Usually this would bother me and make me feel lazy.  Instead, it makes me giggle.  I'll get my big behind out on the running trail again this week, but not until I finish my book series!
  • There is a possibility that I was not completely righteous while BYU lost to Florida last week.  I've been feeling rather repentant for the not-so-good words that slid from my mouth while yelling at the screen.  In front of my oldest son.  Who will never let me live this down.
Ryan:
  • Has even less motivation to exercise.  Which makes us giggle even harder every night when we compare belly sizes!  Haha!
  • Is rather stressed with some work issues right now.  He's having a hard time leaving work "at work" when he comes home, because he has a lot on his plate.  Hopefully things will calm down soon.
  • Has traveled quite a bit this year, but doesn't have any travel plans the next few weeks.
  • Was called to serve in the Young Men's Presidency a couple weeks ago.  I'm excited about this, because I will actually know what's going on at the activities, which will hopefully not be basketball every week.  The Young Men play basketball A LOT on Wednesday nights, which frustrates me because Brevan needs more structure than a pick-up game of basketball can offer.  It's pretty amazing that with all the years we've been married, Ryan hasn't been in a Young Men's calling, except for the two months before being called to a Bishopric when he was a YM advisor.
  • Has almost finished the entire Book of Mormon again.  He set the goal to finish by the end of March, and might be only a few days behind his schedule.  He has learned so much from the BofM this time, and has had some great spiritual insights.
  • Has great plans for our yard, which is looking very white-trash at the moment.  The Bobcat we used to re-build the retaining wall completely tore up our backyard, so we need to bring in soil, use a tiller to smooth out the dirt, and re-seed.  Plus the rest of the yard is covered in Crabgrass.  It's quite the project to take on, and probably won't look great for a couple more years.
So that's us in a nutshell.
