The kids have been begging us to take them camping lately, since the weather is so perfect. While at Sam's Club on Friday, I found a great deal on a large tent, and decided we should go camping that night. Upon getting home and realizing my spontaneous idea might take some planning, we thought Saturday night would be the perfect time to go. It was General Conference weekend, so there would be no church on Sunday morning, and we wouldn't need to be home until the start of Conference at 11. I went into full planning mode and invited the Simmons to join us. I had reserved the last camping spot at Watkins Mill, but when we arrived it had been given to someone else. We were determined to still camp, so we called Bishop Thorne and got permission to camp on a huge, vacant property he owns in the country. That meant we had no running water or toilets, but we had a great time anyway! We ate some delicious food while there, and Brevan even showed us his dutch oven cooking skills by making peach cobbler.
We had been in our camping area for about 2 minutes when Logan Simmons started catching frogs and bugs. He's such a nature-lover like his Mom!
Our camping spot. We chose a spot way in the back of the acreage, near the trees.
Brevan built this fire all by himself! I'm so impressed with the skills he's been learning in Boy Scouts! Oh, have I mentioned that he just earned his Star Scout award? That's the farthest Ryan ever got in his Scouting experience, and Brevan already earned it at age 13. At this rate, he should earn his Eagle when he's only 14!
The girls were adamant that we needed to find a log for them to sit on while making s'mores. Ryan drove around the property in his truck and found this old telephone post, which worked just great!
A girl after my own heart . . .reading a book by the light of the fire.

Ali, what a great camping trip! S’mores, reading by the camp fire and the family together—not much can beat that. Thank you for sharing AND for shopping at Sam’s Club! – Carrie from Sam’s Club
