Lice is not Nice
We are officially that dirty family that has head lice. I am so insanely disgusted and feel like burning the whole house down in an effort to eradicate the bugs. So far, the only kid who for sure has lice is Brynlie. She was contaminated by her friend, Megan, who slept over a couple weeks ago. Since then, I have had numerous kids in and out of our house, including sleeping over. I had a bunch of not-fun phone calls to make to terrified parents yesterday. I knew lice would be gross, but I had no idea it would be this much of a big ordeal. I worked on Brynlie's hair for 12 hours straight yesterday. I used the special lice remover shampoo FIVE times before I could finally comb through her hair without seeing live lice! But the hardest part is getting rid of all the nits on the roots of the hair. The stupid combs don't work well, so I've actually been cutting any strands of hair I see with nits on them. Bryn can't go back to school until there are no nits at all. After 4 hours of sitting in the kitchen cutting out nits this morning, I took a break and sat down at this computer. Our house is being completely overhauled . . .we are washing every blanket, pillow, couch, carpet, doll, stuffed animal, clothing item, hair clip, etc. that Bryn or Lindsey have come in contact with in the last couple weeks. It is awful, time-consuming, and I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. It's only a matter of time before me or Lindsey get it, since we all share combs. Ewwwww. Stay far away from me and my brood for a while.

Bless your heart. You are not dirty although I know it feels like you will never be clean again. My kids caught it on our move to KC 11 years ago from a motel room. They started a new school with it and I had no idea. I'd never seen it before. The first week of school the nurse sent them home because she found nits in their hair. I just thought it was dandruff from the dry heat in our house. It was a long process to get rid of it. I spent many hours with that silly comb just combing through and picking out nits with my hands. You might be surprised that you won't get it. I never got it and neither did Bridger, Boyd or the little boy we had living with us at the time. So sorry that is happening to you. I stuck all our stuffed animals and extra pillows in plastic bags for weeks to suffocate the buggers just in case they were on there. You're right, you would never wish it on your worst enemy.
I seriously feel so bad for you. I cannot even imagine how horrible that must be. I hope you get rid of it soon. What a nightmare!
I am sorry! You always hear about it - I feel badly that it happened. I am sure some day I will too & then I'll come to you & ask for advice & sympathy. :(
Oh man- we used to get that once a year growing up. I remember my grandpa vacuuming our head with the vacuum hose once! So sorry it is a PAIN! Don't worry you aren't gross!
