How could I have a 10-year-old?

I'm feeling a little bit old today. Has it really been that long since I had my first baby? How could 10 years have flown by so quickly? And the scarier thought . . .I only have 8 years left to teach my boy everything he needs to know to function away from me. Ahhh! Well, Brevan enjoyed his birthday yesterday. It was low-key, just like Brynlie's birthday last week. I made Brevan a chocolate cake with chocolate frosting (his choice) and put the candles in the shape of a "10." Check out those cheeks!
This is the present that his Ellefsen grandparents sent. The perfect idea . . .an invention book and kit! His Springer grandparents sent him $25 and his Grandma Palmer sent him $20. He's been begging me to take him to the store ever since. A new video game awaits!
And the present he requested from us was a Webkins dog. He wanted to be able to play the Webkins game online, but also wanted a dog because I won't allow him to have a real dog (I'm so darn mean, I know!)
Here's the yearly interview with my oldest son:
Tell me about your typical day: Going to school, doing some work, coming home to read a good book and play video games. Going to bed.
What do you want to be when you grow up? This could be a long one. An architect, an artist, an inventor, a cook, a lawyer, a salesman, that person at Daddy's work . . .hey I want the name of the person! . . .I'm leaving this interview. I was just joking. A person that helps with computers . . .ya, an IT guy.
What makes you angry? When I have a lot of work to do in a day. (He wanted me to do "a lot" in italics and bold).
What is the most fun thing in the world? A book.
Who are your closest friends? Cole and everybody. I've tried to make friends with everybody I've met lately.
What do you do to relax? Read a good book, watch T.V.
Where do you want to go to college someday? BYU because my great great great great Grandfather was Brigham Young, and I want to remember his name.
Are you going to get married? If so, to who? I'm going to get married but I have no idea to who. It depends on who I meet. I read about a girl in the "Friend" magazine that sounded exactly like me. It was like 3 years ago and she was already 10 so we might have to go our seperate ways. She was perfect. I remember her face but not her name.
How many kids do you think you'll have? Depends. On what? I don't know. That's why it depends.
What is the best thing about having 3 little siblings? There is no upside to it.
What is the worst thing about having 3 little siblings? There is no downside to it.
What are you really good at? Everything.
What are your favorite foods? Lasagna, anything unhealthy, anything unless it's green or starts with the letters K or C.
What big lesson have you learned in life so far? When you're a nerd, girls just don't like ya. I know it's sad. But I'm embracing it and I'm proud of it! I even declared it to my class a few weeks ago during reading time.
What is your favorite school subject? One word for you . . .science. And math. And everything else.
What is your favorite ice cream flavor? You should know this, Mommy. Triple chocolate chip cookie dough.
What is one way you will be a different parent than we have been? There is no way. You have good lessons. You're the perfect Mother. In some ways. You're not totally perfect you know.
Are you planning on serving a mission? If so, where do you think you'll serve? Yes. I'll go wherever the church needs me the most. Even if they have yucky food there.
What is your favorite book? I don't know. I don't have a favorite book.
What do you like to do with your Dad? We play video games sometimes.
What do you like to do with your Mom? This. And the game of Life.
Anything else you want me to know about you? I love science. And now I'm going to go do my science kit.

I am laughing that Brevan wanted a Webkins so he could play online. Clayton told me the same thing the other day. Clayton has always loved stuffed animals but now he wants a Webkins so he can get a password to play the games. I love your interviews with your kids too. They will love going back to read them someday.
