One of my New Year goals this year was to organize my kitchen cabinets and pantry in a way that is sustainable. In January, I took these pictures of the walk-in pantry. It was always a disaster because the boxes of cereal would get knocked over, the bags of chocolate chips or chips would spill, and my kids would put items into any open spot regardless of the organization I tried to maintain.
In the pre-cancer spring, I researched different containers, perused Pinterest, drew up my plans, and visited numerous stores as I bought needed supplies. Then I took everything out of the pantry and made a giant mess as I began the organization.
After several days, the new design started to take shape. The cans were on risers, the cereals were in pourable bins that are large enough to hold 2 bags of cereal, the glass bottles were on spinners, and the baking items were in separate, air-tight canisters. All other items were in labeled baskets, such as breads, breakfast items, snacks, drinks, spreads, meal items, etc. Christine gave me the idea to keep sport bottles in a shoe holder behind the pantry door. I also added a vegetable basket and organized Bella's food and treats into bins .
The pantry has actually stayed organized this whole year, but it wasn't completely finished. The day school started last month, I got to work completing this project. I gave the pantry a fresh coat of paint, hung favorite photos and recipes on a cute board with clothespins, installed hangers for the mop and broom, bought a few more containers, and reorganized everything.
Ahhh, organization!
Most of my New Year goals flew out the window this year when cancer took over, but at least my kitchen cabinets and pantry are under control.
