CANCER CENTER GRADUATION!

Ryan's last cancer treatment was on Friday, August 22nd.  After months of nasty chemotherapy and a full month of daily radiation treatments, he was asked to ring the bell that signals the end!

We were beyond thrilled to walk out the doors of the Cancer Center.  Although we are looking at years of follow-up visits, including a visit with both the oncologist and the radiation specialist in a couple weeks, it was a relief to be done with the scheduled regimen.

We even got to keep the scary mask Ryan had to wear for every radiation treatment.  Haha, I'm not quite sure what we will do with that strange memento.

We had planned to do a little celebrating after leaving the Cancer Center, but decided to head home because every activity involves food.  Ryan is having a very difficult time dealing with the reality of having no taste buds.  Almost everything he tries to eat makes him gag because it feels like chewing on a wet washcloth.  He has lost 20 pounds in the past month because he mostly drinks health shakes.  For a guy who loves food as much as Ryan, this is a pretty crappy side-effect.  The doctors told us he won't be able to taste anything for at least several more months.

Ryan has also been taking strong pain medications every day for the past month because his throat is torn apart and he has large sores all over his tongue.  The poor guy has been through the ringer this year, but it's great to know that the worst is over.

Happy graduation, Ryan!
