Has it really been almost a month since I've blogged? So much has happened this month, and I'm sure I have already forgotten many of the best moments.
Some of the lows were: the lawnmower broke down (and when you own 2 1/2 acres of land, the lawnmowers are not cheap), a nasty sickness has made it's way through our family lately, and the upstairs air conditioner completely died (during the exact 2 days that we were changing home owners insurance, so we may need to pay the entire amount - $4100 - out of pocket). We were just discussing last month the fact that this was our first summer in SIX years when we hadn't dealt with air conditioning problems. We are so air-conditioner cursed!
This little guy was one of the best highlights of the month. My good friend, Ciara, has waited so many years to finally become a Mommy, and she was able to adopt this handsome little boy from Las Vegas. He was born at 28 weeks to a drug-addicted birth mom, so Ciara moved into the hospital and spent the past couple months loving him back to health. He is finally home and Ciara's arms are no longer empty! Delmar hit the jackpot getting Ciara and Blair as parents.
Brevan is doing so well in school this year. I was worried about the transition to Junior High, but he has matured so much in the past year and he has adjusted like a pro. He's already had his phone taken away twice because I've texted him during the day and he won't leave the ringer off. I've learned to wait until right when school gets out to text him about whether or not I will be picking him up! I took this picture of him when picking him up one day. I must have been very tired while helping him get ready in the morning, because I didn't realize he was wearing blue stripes with black plaid. My funny boy couldn't care less about fashion, so I have to help him out each day. I've started folding full outfits together in his drawers so he doesn't have to wonder what matches. But I'll take a fashion-dummy teenager any day over a designer-label-obsessed teenager!
Oh my lands, this kid is cute. I wish I could adequately describe my funny and adorable 5-year-old Logan. On the day I took this picture, he was wanting to help me cook. He kept looking through the drawers for a "bra." When I asked him why he was looking for a bra, he said, "You know, Mom - the thing you tie in back so you can help cook!" An apron will forever now be referred to as a bra in our house.
Another cute Logan story: While in the hair salon one day, Logan was whining about being thirsty. I went to the front counter and asked if I could get him some water, thinking that they would just fill a cup with tap water. Instead they got a bottled water and told me it would be one dollar. I started scrambling through my purse and realized all I had with me was a credit card. The salon worker said they could not accept credit cards for that amount, so I was about to walk away when she said, "Wait just a minute, let me get my manager." An older man came out and smiled at Logan. He grabbed a Gatorade along with the water bottle, got down on his knee and said, "I tell you what, handsome guy. I will give you this Gatorade and a water if you can tell me who was the most important person to ever live on the Earth." Logan looked him right in the eyes and said, "Headenly Faddew." The manager smiled again and said, "Wow. Well, I was going to give you the hint that this person is the reason we celebrate Christmas." Logan immediately said, "Oh, then the answer is Jesus Chwist." He got himself a couple free drinks and I was a proud mama.
Just in case I've overdone the cuteness in Logan, here's a story to show that he is a true little boy. While playing at the Napiers house one afternoon, Christine told him it was time to go home, but that she would drive him (as well as Brynlie and Lindsey, who were also playing at their house). Logan got in her Suburban and wouldn't sit in a seat; he was determined to stand up the entire way to our house. Granted, we only live 2 houses away, but Christine said that he had to sit down. He proceeded to tell her NO repeatedly, then started hitting Brynlie, Lindsey and Parker. When the girls ran in the house crying and told us what Logan had done, he was in BIG trouble. After about an hour-and-a-half in time-out, Ryan marched him over to the Napiers house so he could apologize to Christine and Parker, and promise to never act that way again. Upon getting back home, Ryan sat him in the flowerbeds in the front yard and told him to pick up enough rocks to fill the whole bucket. By this time Logan knew he was in deep doodoo, so he didn't make a noise and went to work. It took almost 2 hours (until after the sun had set) before he filled the bucket and was allowed to come in the house. Let's hope this stubborn boy learned his lesson. If there's something that we really don't put up with in our parenting, it's disrespecting adults. A lesson I learned from my own parents who marched me down the street more than once to apologize for my bad behavior.
Doesn't he look so sweet and innocent picking up those rocks?!?
A random picture I took on a Sunday when most of the family happened to be wearing purple.
Now that the big kids are back in school, Logan has started preschool again. He is actually enrolled in two preschools this year. The first one is the preschool group I've formed with 5 other moms in my area, where we switch off teaching at our houses on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9:00 to 11:30. I was in charge of teaching the first week and had a ridiculous amount of fun with these cuties! The six kids in the class are Logan, Ezra, Jocelyn, Bella, Zoey and Violet, and they are all SO much fun. I kind of wish I could teach the class every time.
The first day I taught the theme "All About Me." We cut out life-size Me's on butcher paper, filled out workbooks about different things we each like, cut out pictures of our favorite foods and animals from magazines, had outdoor fun in our neighbor's backyard and played a ball game where we learned each other's names.
On the second day I taught about "Camping." Each kid brought their pillow and sleeping bag and we set them up inside our tent. We talked about each of the different items I had packed for our camping trip, read books with only the light of a flashlight, played a fun game called "Hungry Bear," went on a nature walk to collect items that we then laminated, made s'mores, finger-painted pictures of a campfire and made our own trail mix.
Logan's second preschool is held on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons from 12:30 to 3:30 at Joyful Noise, the same school Brynlie and Lindsey attended. This makes Tuesday's and Thursday's busy, because after he finishes his morning preschool we have a quick lunch together before I drop him off at his afternoon school. I miss him. But I know this year will be a good transition to all-day Kindergarten next year for BOTH of us.
I took this picture of Logan on his first day of preschool at Joyful Noise. He was so excited and didn't even look back after I told him goodbye. Sniff sniff. I may be having a bit of an Identity Crisis.
