Other holiday happenings

  • We had a family UNO tournament, which lasted for 5 days.  The first player to get 500 points was the winner.  No surprise that Ryan won it all, but we all had a great time.
  • I got a bit addicted to a free Scrabble app on my phone, since I was spending so much time lying down.  Nothing makes me quite as proud as beating a computer at Scrabble.
  • I watched every stinking movie that was on TV.  I can hardly stand to sit on the couch anymore, because it feels so good to be up and moving around!
  • We did a lot of cleaning and organizing as a family.  The kid's bedrooms are so organized, even an OCD person would be impressed.
  • Ryan and I watched "The Pacific" series, which I had bought him for Christmas.  Then we borrowed the entire "Band of Brothers" series, and watched that, too.  They are so well done, and I was fascinated with learning the small details about the war.  They do have some very inappropriate scenes, however, so they are definitely not for everyone.
  • On News Year Eve I was in bed reading a book by 9:00 pm.  How's that for boring and old?  I was asleep soon afterward, but woke up about 11:30 so I could watch Brynlie and Brevan do a little celebrating at midnight.
  • We ate out A LOT (which explains some of the recent weight gain) and had a lot of fun as a family.  We saw a few movies in the theater, did some shopping, and enjoyed playing with our new Christmas presents.
  • Ryan cooked almost every meal, which means we ate meat every day!
  • Ryan went to the dr. to discuss his deformed finger that he messed up playing football on Thanksgiving.  I also put my hand in the bathroom drawer one day and accidentally took a huge chunk off one of my fingers when it ran over a razor.  Then Lindsey got an infection on one of her fingers and had a hard time sleeping because she was in pain.  Then Brevan bit his fingernails too short and had an in-grown nail on one his fingers.  Then Brynlie cut her thumb really badly on a piece of glass attached to a picture frame.  Logan has managed to avoid the Ellefsen Finger Curse.
  • The kids had plenty of Friend Time.

  • Brevan continued to help out with the Special Olympics.  On the day I took these pictures, Clayton (in the black jacket) was  hanging out with Brevan at our house at the time the basketball practice started, so he went along also.  They were able to work with Jack this day, who is our Bishop's son.

This is Mrs. Nutter, one of the best teachers of all time.  She is Brevan's biggest fan (besides his parents, of course)!  She has such a fun personality!

The boys even had some time to shoot baskets on their own.

Now we are back in the swing of things, with school, after-school activities, and normal bedtimes.  Although I loved having the kids home during winter break, I have to admit that I'm really enjoying having us on a schedule.
