Worst Valentine's Day ever

What a bummer day. Ryan and I aren't big Valentine celebrators, since it falls right in the middle of my birthday and our anniversary, but today takes the cake for worst Valentine's Day.

I had such great plans for the day. Decorate Ryan's office, like I do every year. Give him his presents, which are actually anniversary presents but I was too excited to wait. Paint the family room. Grocery shop. Start doing a major cleaning of the whole house, since I have a few dozen women coming over for a Baby Shower on Saturday.

The day started right, with me giving Ryan his presents . . .a new version of a cookbook he loved that I accidentally threw away when we moved last summer, and plane tickets to Denver/concert tickets to see one of our favorite bands. Then Ryan left for work, and my day was set to begin.

But sudden nausea hit hard. And it didn't take long for me to realize I had a full-fledged flu bug. I spent the day praying to the porcelain god.

We still have no food in the house (thank goodness, because the thought of it makes me want to . . .you know). The family room is still not painted. And the house is even messier than it was this morning. So much for a productive Monday. But I tell you, there is nothing like a case of the stomach flu to make me appreciate my health.

On the bright side, my two youngest children are the most comical combo on earth. A few things they've said in the past 24 hours:

Logan: Daddy, can I have some candy?
Ryan: In a minute.
Logan: Now?
Ryan: Not yet. In a minute.
Logan: Oh. Now?
Ryan: I said in a minute!
Logan: OK. {very short pause} Now?

Logan: Guess how many monies I have?!?
Ryan: How many?
Logan: {While holding up 10 fingers} Zero!!

Lindsey: Mom, what does it mean to be gay?
Me: Uhhhh, why?
Lindsey: Because I just think you should tell me.

Lindsey: Daddy, do they give you something in the hospital for the pain when you have a baby?
Ryan: Yes, they do.
Lindsey: Good! Because I do NOT want to feel it when they cut my belly open.

And proof that winter will not last forever: although it was -6 degrees (yes, NEGATIVE six degrees) when I dropped off Brevan at school last Thursday, it has been in the 50's the past couple days and is supposed to be near 70 (SEVENTY!) on Thursday! Hopefully my stomach settles and I don't pass on this nasty bug to the rest of my family so we can get out and enjoy the sunshine!

Happy Birthday a week late. It sounds like you had a fun date with Ryan. Sorry you ended up sick over Valentines Day. Not fun.

So are you really done blogging?
