As soon as we arrived at Claire's, Ryan felt the need to try on some of the winter wear. Then he looked at the rest of the store and exclaimed, "Wow, this is the worst store I've EVER been in!"
We watched another 8-year-old girl get her ears pierced, which helped with some of Bryn's fears, but she was still pretty nervous when it was her turn on the chair.
Luckily, they had two employees that could pierce the ears at the same time. Bryn kept bringing her hands up to her face and closing her eyes. Such a traumatic event we girls have to endure for beauty!

As soon as it was over, Bryn had tiny tears in her eyes, but was excited that they were finally pierced! She picked out quite the blinging earrings for her first pair!

The next stop was the roller skating rink in Liberty. I have dropped my kids off at the roller rink for birthday parties in the past, but I haven't personally been on roller skates since sometime in the 80's. It took Ryan and I some time to remember how to skate, but then Ryan tried to show me some of his old tricks, such as skating backward. I can just picture him impressing all those girls back in 1985 with his smooth moves! I had so many flashbacks of my weekends as a youth spent in a roller rink, dancing to "Celebrate" by Kool and the Gang. Good times. What was really funny is that the whole roller skating experience hasn't changed at all. The dirty rink, stinky used skates, limbo time, and nasty bathroom with pee on the ground because no one can control themselves on skates.

When we walked in the rink, we noticed many of Brynlie's best friends, who were there for a birthday party. I thought it might make Bryn feel uncomfortable, but she said, "No, this is great! I get to spend time with you and Dad, and all my friends are here, too!" I hope she keeps her genuine happiness throughout her life, and doesn't choose to get offended at things like not being invited to a birthday party! Below is Bryn with her best friend, Megan.

Brynlie Day
We started something new with our kids. Every birthday they can pick whether to have a party with friends, or spend an entire day with me and Ryan to themselves, doing whatever they want. This year Brynlie picked the day with me and Ryan. After picking up the babysitter for the other kids, we headed off for Ginger Sue's, a very yummy breakfast place.

The next stop on the day of fun was Claire's, where Brynlie could get her ears pierced. Bryn has been begging to get her ears pierced for the past couple years, and I told her she could probably get them pierced when she turned 8. I had no idea that her Daddy would not approve. He had a hard time thinking of his baby girl doing something so grown up. Brynlie has spent the past few months proving her maturity to her Daddy, who finally agreed to the piercing.

So fun - I love this idea! Looks like a great day:)
What a perfect idea. I love it! I might just have to do that. She is so darling and looks like she had a fabulous birthday!
SO fun- we have a "friend" birthday party every other year and a "family" day on the off years. It is a fun way to do it
So sweet!
Yeah, Brian said no ear piercing until Brooke was 16. You can imagine how he reacted when I had her ears pierced a couple of months after she turned 5. Now, 8 months later, it still irks him. He stands by his 16-year-old rule.
I got mine pierced when I was 8.
Oh she is SO much braver than I am... I got my ears peirced when I was ten, and I still cries and then i didn't even do it because I chickened out. So then we went back the next day and got them done. I was SO scared!!!! Congrats Bryn!
