And now, I have to try to relive one of the best weeks of our lives, without the help of the pictures I lost from my memory card. Over 1,000 pictures from our time in Lake Powell were accidentally erased. It's so heart-breaking because they were some of the best pictures I've ever taken. The first night of the trip, we stayed in a cute house in Kanab that fit all 12 of us comfortably. I had found the house on VRBO after realizing the hotel rates in Page, Arizona were horrendous. We woke up early the next day and drove the final hour to get on the lake.
We LOVED staying on a houseboat with our kids and the awesome Hughes family. Ryan and Nate were HILARIOUS all week long, with their inside jokes and intense joy at spending a week on the lake. Brevan worked so hard and finally learned to waterski! He was rocking those skis, even learning to venture over the wake! Brynlie became good friends with the Hughes girls, and pushed herself to be daring by jumping off 20, 30 and 35 foot cliffs. Seriously. As the Mom, I was so proud but very nervous! Lindsey and Whitney were immediately the best of friends, making up silly skits where they spoke in British accents and devouring more junk food than they've ever consumed. The held hands while jumping off the huge cliffs and the roof of the houseboat, hiked on the rocks where our houseboat was docked and played around on the jetskis as much as possible. Logan was just plain awesome. He started off the trip by being nervous to jump off a 5 foot cliff, but was easily jumping off 25 cliffs by the end. He wouldn't even stand at the top and consider the jump for any amount of time - he just walked up the rocks, turned around and flew in the air. I'm wondering if God made most of the Lake Powell pictures disappear from my camera because he didn't want to give my Mother a heart-attack when she saw the thrills her grandchildren were getting on their vacation.
We had rented a 26 foot boat since we didn't want to haul our boat all the way from Missouri. It was so large and awesome that it qualified as a yacht! We also had a couple jetskis, a wakeboard, a tube and a couple sets of skis. It was so much fun. Have I made that point obvious yet? Nate and Steph are awesome, and we've already started planning the next lake trip! The pictures on this post were taken on my cellphone before I got out my nice camera and started capturing the really fun moments.
I took this picture while we were driving the houseboat to the cove where we docked it for the next week. Ryan is driving the yellow boat we rented.
We spent hours every day playing card games when we needed a break from the sun.
This is the bedroom that Ryan and I used. He usually slept up on the dock while I shared the bed with one of the kids. It was remarkably comfortable! We all decided that the next houseboat we rent will have more than one bathroom. I won't go into details on that one.
This is Nate, driving the houseboat to where we docked. It shows the pull-out couch where several kids crashed every night and part of the kitchen area.
Stephanie, Ashley and Chloe (who is Brian's daughter, so she's a cousin of Nate's girls).
Nate and Chelsea - who always had a sucker in her mouth. She's ridiculously cute. We want Logan to marry her.
Ryan cliff-jumping on the first day of our vacation. This was just a random place he stopped. The rest of the trip we went to an awesome cove to do our super-safe-ish jumping.
It's so strange that the next few photos weren't erased from my camera, because they were taken in the middle of the week. Brevan looked so funny this day with the pink goggles and bright orange life-preserver! The two freshman girls who were with us (Ashley and Chloe) were getting a kick out of our goofy boy.
Whitney, Nate and Ryan
Brevan learning to ski! This was taken when he was barely learning how to stand up on the skis. He became more comfortable on them as the week went on. I also got up on skis on my first try. I used to ski but haven't tried for years, so it was fun to ski behind the boat again!
And that's it. The only pictures to remember a week full of fun. Hopefully my kids have great memories they can hold on to without the help of pictures. We took some really cool pictures that are now lost, such as the one where all 6 members of our family jumped off a high cliff together. Oh well . . .there's always next year to capture more awesome photos!
