Where did June go?

While at a play performance the other night, we got a text from Josh saying a 6-foot piece of trim on our house was falling off, due to a strong wind that came through the area.  We came home to this.  Luckily, Ryan was able to fix the trim fairly easily.  I can't wait to see what falls apart on the house next . . .

I picked these beautiful flowers from my yard this week!  I grew them!  My excitement about flowers lately has reminded me of the time around Brevan's first birthday.  I remember feeling great pride and a little shock that I had kept a child alive for a whole year.  It seems so funny to me now, but at the time I felt like it was a great accomplishment!

The weather has been FANTASTIC lately, and we've had some amazing sunsets.  I took this picture in our neighborhood last week.  The girls and I decided Christ had returned to a field somewhere in Kansas!  The sky looked like it was on fire.  I didn't do any editing on this photo, so it would show the exact colors in the sky.

While talking to the kids about our upcoming trip, I told them the weather we've had in Missouri lately feels more like Utah weather.  We looked up the weather in both places to compare, and saw that Utah is burning up!  Maybe we want to stay in Missouri a while longer before heading out west!  It better cool down there, or we will have to spend the whole time in the mountains!

This is my current Summer Reading pile of books.  So many great words to soak in!  Right now I'm finishing up Ender's Game, which is Brevan's favorite book.

A couch we ordered a few months ago came in this week.  We moved the large sectional from the upstairs family room to the basement.  We are getting a couple chairs that match this couch, as well as some accent furniture pieces, but right now we are trying to overcome the sticker shock of the &%*#@* retaining wall expense.  Until then, the couch (and a chair that isn't in the picture) are pretty dwarfed in the room.  We are rearranging the focal point direction in the room, so the TV will be hung on a wall where it is somewhat hidden.  The new configuration will make it possible for the annoying media chord to be inside a wall.

Yesterday I took the girls to a production put on by the actors of the Nauvoo Pageant.  I didn't really know what to expect, but thought it would be something my girls might enjoy.  It was AMAZING.  I use the word amazing too much in my blogging.  Let me check a thesaurus for a similar word . . .

Astonishing!  Breath-taking!  Astounding!  Stupendous!  Marvelous!  Spectacular!

I loved it!  The production was about the emotions and trials we all experience during the different stages of life.  They sang songs from many famous musicals, as well as some incredible songs I had never heard.  The Spirit was so strong in the room (which was a High School performing arts center), even though it wasn't technically a "church activity."  I had tears streaming down my face for at least an hour straight.  I wish I had known what to expect ahead of time and I would have brought some of my good friends of other faiths.  The show basically taught the Plan of Salvation without making it feel like a gospel lesson.

After the play, I spoke for quite a while with one of the directors.  He gave me information about having my family be involved in the Nauvoo Pageant next year by being "background" actors in the play and teaching the gospel to visitors.  I hope it all works out!

Brynlie has been swamped with babysitting jobs lately.  For the next two weeks she is watching a couple kids at our house during the day.  I have her do all the cooking, cleaning, changing diapers and naptime duties, so she is working hard to earn her money.  She is hoping to make enough money to buy an iPhone this fall.  We've told our kids we will purchase them a basic phone when they turn 12, but if they want a fancier phone they will need to buy it.  So far, both kids have taken on the challenge and worked hard for the nicer phone.

A lot has been going on with Brevan.  Some good, some great, some not so good.  I don't feel like getting into all that right now.  Maybe another day.

Lindsey is fluttering around like a social butterfly, and Logan is becoming smarter by the day.  He is also very much a "Mommy's Boy" so I'm trying to force him to be less attached to me to help with the transition to all-day Kindergarten.

Ryan was recently called to teach the 6-year-olds in Primary.  He loves being with them and hearing the funny things they say.  Our favorite story he's told us was about Thomas, one of Logan's friends.

Ryan:  Before we came to earth, we were all brothers and sisters, and Heavenly Father was our Daddy.  We had a brother named Jesus and another brother named Lucifer.

Thomas:  Lucifer is Satan.

Ryan:  You're right, Thomas.

Thomas:  If I ever see Satan, I'm going to kick him right in the nuts.

Ryan (stifling a laugh):  Well that might be pretty hard, Thomas, because Satan doesn't have a body like you and I do.

Thomas:  So he's a ghost?

Ryan:  Kind of.  He is a Spirit and he's jealous that we have bodies.

Ryan then went on with the lesson, but noticed Thomas was deep in thought.  About 5 minutes later, Thomas raised his hand, and Ryan called on him.

Thomas:  I got it.  I will throw a sheet on him so I know where he is.  Then I will kick him in the nuts.
