The girls have worked so hard for the past month to learn their parts in the Schoolhouse Rock play. They performed it twice this past weekend on an outdoor stage in Kearney. The weather had been cooperating very well until just before the play was ready to start on Saturday night. A quick rainstorm came through the area, but luckily on lasted about 5 minutes. We hid under the canopies while the performers huddled backstage to keep dry. One guy was very creative by putting his chair as an umbrella.
After the storm blew over, the play went on! I've always been so proud of my girls when they perform, but this time I was especially proud for a few extra reasons:
- the girls didn't like the script or songs, and had considered quitting before I reminded them that Ellefsens don't quit.
- Lindsey was given a solo musical number! She sang the song called "Interplanet Janet" very well, and showed off her funny personality.
- Brynlie had a main part in the show, which included a lot of memorized lines and solo musical numbers. She sang "Interjections" by herself at the end of the show, and was able to show her confidence, beautiful voice and dancing skills all in one song.
The Simmons and Napiers came to the show on Saturday night, and Christine was nice enough to buy flowers for Chloe and Madelyn to give my girls. We have great friends.
One of the best things about the play was the friendship Brynlie formed with Emma. They had known each other in the past, but got much closer during the play and have spent several days hanging out together lately. Emma is a sweet girl who lives nearby and enjoys many of the same activities as Brynlie.
My girls are so talented! I hope they always have enough confidence in themselves to participate in activities they enjoy.
