My parents flew into town on Friday evening (October 12th) and I had to bring them with me to Sam's Club and the grocery store on the way home from airport. I told them if I was a good host, I would have already accomplished all my errands, but life was super busy that week. I taught preschool two days and was in charge of a large YW activity, so my initial plans of being prepared for company in town did not work out perfectly. Luckily, my parents stepped right in and started helping with the baptism preparations for the next day.
Lindsey had to be baptised at the old Stake Center, since it was the weekend of Stake Conference. I was disappointed, because I thought it would be neat to be one of the first children baptized in the new font, plus it's so fun to be next door to the temple. Lindsey had a combined baptism with her good friend, Shanna, which made the day extra special. We sent out baptism announcements to all of her relatives and most of her friends, including her entire soccer team. We were hoping that some of her non-member friends would come to support her, but the only non-member who came was her Beyond Basics teacher, Mrs. Rennack. I was so grateful that Lindsey's teacher saw the importance of supporting her on her special day.
My Mom took all the pictures of the baptism day, which means there are no pictures of her attending the event! I can't believe I forgot to get pictures of Lindsey with her grandparents who flew all the way to Missouri for the baptism. I'm so glad my Mom loves to take pictures, because she keeps our lives well-documented while she's in town!
The baptism started at 2:00, so we planned to arrive at 1:15 to prepare. That means we rolled into the parking lot at 1:40, feeling embarrassed when our friends and neighbors actually got there before we did! I will scan in pictures of Lindsey's baptism announcement and the program when I get my printer working again soon. Brevan said the opening prayer, my Dad gave a wonderful talk on baptism, and Lindsey sang "I'm Trying to be Like Jesus" with her friends, Jorja, Chloe, Shanna and Sarah. Ryan baptised Lindsey, but my Dad confirmed her. A downpour of rain began when the girls were being confirmed, which was a nice reminder of how they were being washed clean from the sins of the world!
Lindsey picked out her own baptism dress when she went shopping with my Mom while in Utah this past summer. The necklace and bracelet she is wearing were given to her by her Daddy a couple hours before the baptism. He wanted to give her something special, but is a horrible shopper, so I bought the jewelry and presented it to him so he could present it to her. :)
Following the baptism, we ate refreshments in the kitchen. My Dad was the official lemonade server, my Mom kept the lemonade filled, and I tried to thank everyone for attending. Shanna's mom had bought a couple sheet cakes, and I brought fruit and veggies.
As baptism gifts, we gave Lindsey a new set of scriptures and my parents bought her a cute scripture case. She was very excited to have scriptures with her name on them! My Mom had picked them up in Utah before flying to Missouri, since I wasn't able to get the name printed online.
I'm proud of my sweet girl for choosing to be baptised. I know she is still too young to understand the enormity of the covenant she just made, but I hope she remembers that day for the rest of her life and begins to strengthen and nurture her testimony of her Savior.
