Brynlie is rocking the swim world. She has improved so much this summer, including learning to dive (pictured on the right in the first picture), and becoming one of the best breastroke swimmers on the Gators team. Many people comment that she has that swimmers body and could be an excellent swimmer with some personal coaching. We've paid extra to give the kids some private lessons this summer on top of the swim team training, and it's definitely helped. She is much more confident when racing in the meets. I'm the worst swim team mom ever, because I can barely doggy paddle my way down a pool. I marvel at all the moms who actually have good advice for their kids! All I can think of to say is, "You are doing great! Swim really quickly!" I still have no idea what errors get them DQed. I have a hard enough time waking them up early in the morning to head off to swim practice at 8:30.
One reason Brynlie is enjoying swim team more this year is the addition of one of her besties, Madelyn. It's always great to have support from a buddy at the swim meets.
I took this picture after the threesome had played in the pool for a few hours last week. We stay after swim practice and just play around at least once a week. I usually have the kids invite friends to come along.
I took this picture on a different day, when Brynlie had no friend with her at the pool. She is so intensely shy and has a very hard time breaking out of her shell to meet new friends. I'm so afraid that next year will be tough for her, since the only two friends she plays with (Jillian and Madelyn) are both going into Middle School, since they are a year older than her.
All that said, I took this picture of Brynlie with another girl who is on the same swim team and happened to be playing at the pool on the same day we were. After *much* coaxing, Bryn asked the nice girl (who is also 10 years old and lives in Liberty) if she wanted to play. I was so proud of my shy girl as I watched her ride off on a tube with a new friend.
The answers to a Fathers Day questionairre at church. She didn't want Ryan to feel old, so she wrote down that he is only 31 years old!
Another activity keeping us very busy this summer is the community play. Both Brynlie and Lindsey have roles in the Alladin Jr. play, which means they attend practice every evening from 7 to 9. The play will be performed this Friday and Saturday, so I'm not sure we will know what to do with ourselves once we can actually hang out around the house all evening! I'm excited to see all the kid's hard work this weekend.
Brynlie has officially started her years of orthodontic treatment, much to her dismay. I keep telling her that she will thank me someday. She has the expander installed on the roof of her mouth, and will be getting braces in the near future. The orthodontist has promised her that she will have her braces off at the age of 13. That makes me happy because I'm still a bit traumatized from having braces at the dating age of 16.
Bryn loves to cook and makes original desserts every Sunday afternoon. She also loves to help with dinner when it works in our schedule. She has been helping us all set goals and achieve them this month. We set spiritual, physical and personal goals for ourselves, which she writes on a big whiteboard. She reminds us daily of our goals and helps us reach our incentive at the end of the week. What a great thing for her to learn at such a young age!
