Girl's Camp
I survived Girl's Camp last week! Barely.
I arrived early Monday morning, and was ready for a week of working and laughing. We definitely did both those things, as well as have emotional conversations that brought us to tears at times, but the work was much HARDER than I was expecting. I'm no lazy girl, but going nonstop from 5:30 am to midnight every day kicked my bootie. We cooked a full breakfast, lunch and dinner for 230 people every day, as well as snacks in between. As soon as we got a meal cooked and served, we would begin cleaning up and starting the next meal. We had a TON of fun while working together in the kitchen (where many new inside jokes were started), but I'm not used to having NO downtime during a day, and it was EXHAUSTING. I found myself sneaking away at least once a day for a 15 minute book-reading break just so I could clear my head.
The girls I worked with (Jen, Melinda, Ciara and Debbie - not pictured above) are HILARIOUS. I peed my pants on a daily basis while bent over laughing. We called ourselves "The Help" all week long (referring to the book), and had an ongoing joke about the chocolate pie we were going to serve to anyone who complained. We began speaking in a Mississippi accent the day we arrived, and wrote the following note on our whiteboard:
You aint kind.
You aint smart.
You aint important.
We is.
We de help.
On Thursday morning I woke up feeling sluggish and sick. The other cooks knew I was truly not feeling well when I turned down a plate of bacon, since I'm very open about my love of a salty pig. By lunchtime, I felt awful and had to go home. I was A) sad to be leaving camp on the day of the testimony meeting, when I would finally get to spend time with the girls and B) happy to be going home to sleep in my own bed. I spent the entire weekend in a flu coma and am just now back to normal life.
All in all, it was worth the sweat and tears and I've already been recruited to help out next year!

I've always wondered how different girls camp would be as a leader. Glad you had a good time and that you are feeling better.
