Here I sit on Halloween night, updating the blog while Ryan takes all the kids trick-or-treating. I stayed home to pass out candy, but we don't seem to be getting a lot of traffic. Apparently our country neighborhood is not nearly as enticing as the candy that will be distributed inside the city limits tonight.
A couple weeks ago I got a babysitter for Logan and spent the day with Brynlie and her classmates on a field trip to Watkins Woolen Mill, the only mill in the United States that still has all the equipment from the days when it employed much of the county in the mid-1800's. It was far more interesting than I was expecting, with the best part being how enthralled Brynlie is with historical sites. She carefully observed every inch of the old house, which reminded her of her favorite place to visit, Nauvoo.
My favorite part of the tour was this old bookshelf with many books that are original to the home. I wanted to smell those old books and run my fingers through the crisp pages!
After a fun day together on the field trip, I had to take Bryn to the most un-fun place around . . .the dentist.
Then she had to go directly to play in a volleyball game. It wasn't her best game ever, since she was still a bit loopy from the laughing gas and starting to feel the pain in her mouth. It was SO fun to watch Bryn learn volleyball this season! And even more fun to see the excitement Ryan had for teaching these cute girls! Brynlie is excited to play volleyball again next season, and hopes to someday be as good as her cousin, Ashlyn!
How's that for a close score? The "Frightening Fairies" (the team name) pulled out a win!
This little guy got rather bored during the games and would find creative ways to entertain himself.
Not a great picture, but one of the greatest moments of the whole season. Ryan called time-out when cute little McKell FINALLY got a serve over the net for the first time all season! They ran up to each other and fist-bumped while the whole team (and crowd of parents!) cheered!
Our favorite Megan, getting ready for the ball to come her way.
A time-out to get the girls motivated. Ryan: "Come on, we need to get some momentum! Do you girls know what momentum means?" One of the Frightening Fairies: "Is it things you keep because they are special to you?" Ryan: "No, that's mementos. Anyone else know?" A different Frightening Fairy: "Is it like a statue?" Ryan: "No, that would be a monument. How about I just explain what momentum means . . ."
Getting ready to serve that ball over the net . . .
I took this picture at the last game, when they took 3rd place in the tournament! Way to go, girls!
This week I spent an evening watching Brynlie in her two dance classes, Hip Hop 3 and Jazz 3. She is quite the talented dancer, but gets so shy in class that she spends much of her time biting her lip and making sure she is in the back row where she can't be easily seen!
I already posted about the fun day I had with Bryn on her birthday. I took this picture of the girls the next morning, when they wanted to show off one of their new outfits (because of course I had to buy Lindsey a new outfit if I was buying some for Brynlie). How cute does the front porch look with all the autumn decorations?
I took this picture of Bryn and Madelyn on the night of Bryn's actual birthday. I had Madelyn and Chloe come over to eat pizza and watch a movie with the rest of us, even though it was a school night. It made Bryn feel better, since she was disappointed that we didn't have her actual birthday celebration until Ryan got back in town the next day.
And the following pictures we taken the next evening, when the celebration actually occurred. The first present to be opened was from Lindsey. It was a homemade card that was very appreciated.
These awesome pens and journals were from her Springer grandparents. Brynlie could draw, color and write stories all day long if we let her.
This adorable hat was made by Grandma Ellefsen, and matches Bryn's coat perfectly!
I can't believe my sweet baby girl is 10. Someone make her stop growing up.
