Exciting news

Ryan's parents just left this morning after spending the past 8 days with us. We did so many things and ate out at so many places, and I think I only took one picture. I'm a real slacker these days. But we enjoyed the time with them and have a hard time getting back to normal life after company leaves.

About a month ago we found out some amazing news about Ryan's job. He was promoted to be the Director of Processing for both his company here in Missouri and also the sister companies out in Utah. This is such a great blessing and something that Ryan has earned with his diligent hard work. The new position has some added perks above the normal, such as a membership for our whole family to the local Country Club. Yay!! The kids can join the swim team (I doubt I can talk Brevan into it, but at least Brynlie is excited), swim all summer long in the pool, take golf lessons and enjoy the fun of the Club. Plus, Ryan gets to golf whenever he wants . . .I'll wait and see if I approve of that! I'm so proud of Ryan and so incredibly grateful for his job. We are blessed beyond belief.

On Thursday Ryan and I attended the first big meeting at the elementary school to talk about Brevan's needs. He didn't qualify for an IEP, but he did qualify for the 504 plan, which I'm thinking will be even better anyway. We met with his classroom teacher, Beyond Basics teacher, principal, school counselor, speech pathologist and the District Special Ed Director. I had been preparing, praying and stressing for quite some time about the meeting, and I'm happy to say that everything went very well. Brevan will be getting communication therapy (where he will do social scripting and role-playing with other children that have similar needs), occupational therapy (to overcome sensory issues and improve some fine and gross motor skills), be able to join the "Friendship Club", and get a "sensory pass" which will allow him to be sent/send himself to a sensory-free room (with dim lights, soft chairs, squishy balls, etc.) when he is over-stimulated and needs a break to calm down. I'm so grateful that everyone at the meeting was supportive of Brevan and his needs. I feel really good about the help he'll be getting and I'm not nearly so stressed about the upcoming (dreaded) middle school years that begin after next school year.
