Ryan's first radiation treatment was on the afternoon of Tuesday, July 29th. He has had a treatment every weekday afternoon since then, and we are hopeful that the last one will be on August 22nd. After he endured chemotherapy, we expected radiation to be fairly easy. We were wrong. Ryan is sleeping up to 14 hours a day, feels like his throat has been ripped apart, is coughing up blood, has aches and pains all over his body, is losing his ability to taste, and has a persistently dry mouth.
When we met with the radiation oncologist on Monday, we were told the symptoms will start to diminish by September. It will take at least a month for his energy to rebound and up to 6 months for his sense of taste to return, but at least he won't have the intense sore throat.
2 more weeks until the Cancer Center won't be our second home. 14 days. We can do this.
While Ryan is being healed with lasers, the nurses watch him on monitors in the next room. I was able to take these pictures on the first day, but I have to spend the rest of the time in a waiting room.
More Superman support from NMR coworkers!
