Our family participated in a neat Service Day a few weeks ago. We got together with other ward members and helped local people with their yard work. We were trimming bushes and weeding a single lady's yard when we noticed her neighbor also needed a lot of work done. When Aimee asked if we could help with her yard work, the lady began to cry and graciously accepted. By working alongside her, we found out she was also single and often lonely. I was proud of my kids for getting their hands dirty and working hard. Ryan hooked up the truck to a dead tree and pulled it right out of the ground. I think that made him feel a little manly. :)
The only drawback of the Service Day would be that a couple members of my family were infected with poison ivy. Luckily, Brynlie wasn't one of them, but Ryan and Brevan both came away with some itchy patches. Little did I know that Brevan would go on to get a severe case of poison ivy after helping with several other service projects in the coming weeks!
