Update on Lindsey

Lindsey is getting so tall and beautiful.  She still has a fun, spunky personality, but has begun to mature in so many ways.  She tries so hard to be kind to others and to set a good example for everyone around her.  She is often told by other kids that she's "too nice" because she includes the lonely kids in her games at school or says "thank you" when someone helps her.  What a sweetheart.

Ryan and I had planned a trip to Utah for the weekend of December 7-9 so we could attend a company Christmas party as well as seeing some family and friends.  I had hired a responsible 18-year-old girl to stay with the kids while we were away.  Unfortunately, the week before we were supposed to head out of town, Lindsey caught the same simple virus the rest of us were dealing with.  When Lindsey gets a simple cold, it almost always turns into a major illness very quickly because he lungs are so compromised from being born early and then getting RSV as a tiny baby.  I started her on breathing treatments immediately when she got sick recently, but as the days went on I realized she was getting worse and I didn't want to leave her side.  I cancelled my trip to Utah, which was disappointing because I was excited to spend time with loved ones, but I knew my little Lindsey needed me.  She ended up missing 6 full days of school, and wasn't able to attend P.E. or go outside for recess once she did return, because her asthma would immediately kick in and she would struggle for breath even during a short walk from the car to the doctor office.  We got her on all the right medications and she is now recovered, but we had some scary moments.  She deals with a bad bout of pneumonia a couple times every winter, and this last time she had bronchitis too.  When she was told she had to get a shot from the doctor, she turned her head toward me and didn't move or make a sound when the shot was administered.  Then she turned and said, "that wasn't bad!"  What a brave girl.

Lindsey is very excited to introduce you to Kermit (her frog) and Katrina (her tadpole).  She is studying frogs for her independent study in Beyond Basics this year, so we got online and ordered her a couple frogs to keep in a habitat in her bedroom. She is learning so much about metamorphosis!

Lindsey is brilliant.  Enough said.  She is one of only two 2nd graders in THE ENTIRE SCHOOL DISTRICT to score "proficient" in every area of her diagnostic testing.  Her teacher tried to explain to me how incredible it is that she is so knowledgeable.  She's such a fun, well-rounded kid.  I'm one lucky Mama.

Her report card shows her personality perfectly.  She gets perfect scores in everything except "Uses time wisely" and "Completes assignments/projects on time."  Lindsey is a social butterfly and often gets distracted from the work because she feels the need to giggle and chat with her friends. Sounds an awful lot like her mom, who had to have a "special desk" in 2nd grade that faced the back wall, since she couldn't stop herself from talking to anyone nearby.

A few months ago, I had the Young Women fill out these booklets about their future husband, kids, etc.  I gave the extra copies to Brynlie and Lindsey to see how they would respond to some of the questions.  I thought Lindsey's answers were awesome, especially that the most important qualities of her husband are "to be athletic, smart and daring - but not too daring," the area of her life she wants to improve is her "engsiady" (anxiety) and she believes she will live in Oklahoma.

As is often the case, I forgot Lindsey had been assigned to give a talk in Primary until we were sitting in Sacrament meeting.  I told her to quickly write her thoughts on a paper, and this is the talk she gave that day.  I love to have my kids write their own talks because it's fun to see how they are applying the gospel to their own life.  She talks about forgiving her friend that took her flowers, wearing a modest swimsuit, and repenting when she is mean to someone.

This is the announcement we sent out before her baptism in October.

This is the program from the day she was baptized.  I'm so glad she was able to share her special day with Shanna, one of her friends.  I had to choke back the tears when Lindsey, Shanna, Sarah, Jorja and Chloe sang "I'm Trying to Be Like Jesus" and I'm so grateful my Dad was able to give a talk about baptism before confirming her with the gift of the Holy Ghost.

A picture she drew in Sacrament one week.  I love Moroni blowing on his horn.

Ryan was the coach of Lindsey's soccer team again this past season.  These 11 girls are powerhouses and won the championship!  Too bad Lindsey and Ryan couldn't attend the actual championship game because it was on a Sunday, but Lindsey was one of the top scorers on her team.  The other players and coaches weren't very happy that Lindsey wouldn't play in the championship game, and even gave her a hard time, but I'm proud of my girl for sticking to her decision.  We didn't pressure her one way or the other, and wanted to support her in whatever choice she made.

Just a cute not my Lindsey made for me.  I love that she's floating!

My beautiful angel girl in her 2nd grade school picture.

Lindsey is now busy with her basketball schedule, where her Dad is once again her coach.  She also loves to attend Activity Days now that she is finally 8!
