December goes so quickly and I'm always sad when it's over. January is just the most depressing time of the whole year. It's cold and snowy, which isn't fun when the holidays are over, and the house looks empty without all the vibrant Christmas decorations.
A few events that kept us busy in December:
Brynlie played on an intramural volleyball team at school.
The truck was fixed, so we now have two vehicles with shiny new paint jobs.
We attended the ward Christmas breakfast, where the kids sat on Santa's lap. Lindsey asked for a gymnastics mat and Logan asked for a bow-and-arrow (which was not the item Santa had made, so it necessitated some altering of presents).
Brevan and Logan performed in a piano recital. It was Logan's first one, and he wasn't even nervous! He played "Jingle Bells" and "Go Tell it on the Mountain" almost perfectly.
On the 12th of December, Ryan and I flew to Utah. A company party was held on Friday night, so we decided to fly in early for a mini-vacation. After arriving, I dropped off Ryan at a work meeting and went to my parent's house to work on homework for a couple hours. Then Ryan and I met up with his parents for a delicious dinner at PF Changs. We stayed with Roy and Bonnie that night, and Roy cooked us a big breakfast on Friday morning. We then headed to a salon where I got the best massage I've ever had while Ryan did some shopping at the mall. The party that evening was held at Daniels Summit in the mountains. It was a fun, casual event with his work buddies, and we stayed up late playing games and laughing. We spent the night at the resort, and did some Christmas shopping the next day before flying home that night. The kids stayed at our house with Rachel and Ammon, which was quite the adventure for all of them! The newlyweds had fun being the cool babysitters, and the kids loved all the junk food and video-game playing. I had someone take this not-so-great picture of me and Ryan at the company party. Ryan's shirt is an inside joke because his nickname at the company is "Wild Card."
I went on a couple team-ups with the missionaries, which ended up being great experiences.
All of us visited the dentist, and walked away cavity-free!
We exchanged gifts with friends and neighbors, which is one of my favorite things to do.
We cheered with joy as some of our friends experienced miracles and blessings in their lives, such as financial help, new jobs and adopted babies.
Nate Hughes stayed with us for a few days after my parents left during the first week of the month. Then we prepared for Ryan's parents and Keri's family to come in town for Christmas.
It was a busy, nearly perfect December, and I'm a little teary-eyed as I realize the holidays are really over. My favorite time of the year is Sept-Dec, so now I'm just trudging along in this boring winter weather, dreaming of springtime.
