In honor of 9/11/01

It's incredible to think an entire decade has passed since the horrible events of 9/11/01.  I was in the last trimester of my pregnancy with Brynlie.  Ryan had left to his teaching job before me and Brevan woke up.  He called after listening to the radio on his way to work and finding out that both towers had been hit by planes.  He told me to turn on the TV to watch the coverage.  I sat in pajamas and watched Katie Couric break down on The Today Show as one of the towers started to crumble.  I kept my hand over my mouth as tears streamed down my face.  I watched coverage of the disaster non-stop for the next few days, as I pondered why I was bringing another child into this terrifying world.  Brevan asked me several times why I was crying, and I told  him I was sad that other little kids' mommies and daddies weren't going to ever come home from work again and give them hugs.

Ryan and I visited Manhattan two years later, in October of 2003.  I scanned the scrapbook pages of that vacation, including the pictures from visiting Ground Zero.  I was going through a very blonde stage, so the color of my hair is pretty shocking!  What was I thinking with the bleached look?  But I am envious of my body that was 30 pounds lighter and had no wrinkles.  My, how 8 years and 2 more children can wreak havoc on a body!  The vacation was one of the best Ryan and I have ever taken together.
